Winter days are good for working inside, and that's exactly what's been happening at the site for the future Jewell County Strong Community Wellness Center. Volunteers from all corners of the county have been showing up to help build a healthier community - one board, screw, or piece of sheetrock at a time.
Construction of the exterior building for the wellness center was completed in the late Fall of 2023. Upon receiving a $30,000 grant from the Dane G. Hansen foundation, materials for the interior construction were purchased to take the building from a wide open space and turn it into a multi-use wellness facility. The facility will include an open exercise space with walking track, cardio & strength training equipment, free weights, 2 classrooms, restrooms, an endless pool, and a public laundromat.
Volunteers from all the corners of the county and all walks of life having been lending a helping hand when possible. Volunteers are young and old, long-time residents and community members that have only lived in Jewell County a short time. Citizens have come from Formoso, Esbon, Jewell, and Burr Oak - whether to help on weekdays or weekends. People from all walks of life having been lending a hand to help make it happen, regardless of educational background, age, career path, or carpentry skill level; the crew has banded together to build a healthier future for the Jewell County Community.
